Chapter 1409: Chapter 584 Zizhu Base_2
“What’s going on here?”
Wang Tao looked toward Zhao Yaru.
“You are the ‘Blessing of Twilight,’ and they can’t bear to be too far from you…”
Zhao Yaru said with her head lowered, her face a picture of reverence.
“The Blessing of Twilight? What’s that?”
Wang Tao was even more perplexed.
Zhao Yaru didn’t conceal anything and quickly explained what had happened before.
It was about “them being on the brink of despair, with most giving up resistance, only for Zhao Yaru to claim they have the ‘Blessing of Twilight’ and mustn’t give up. The others didn’t believe it, but then they were really saved, and the one who saved them was a Senior Priest from the Dusk Church.”
The coincidence was too great, so much so that it compelled belief; it appeared there really was a “Blessing of Twilight!”
Originally, Zhao Yaru herself didn’t believe in any Blessing of Twilight; she only wanted to boost everyone’s morale. But now, having witnessed the miracle with her own eyes, she had become the most faithful believer of the Dusk Church, as well as Wang Tao’s fervent admirer. They all felt that Wang Tao was the person “Twilight” had sent to save them.
After listening to Zhao Yaru’s explanation, Wang Tao found himself caught between tears and laughter.
No wonder these people were giving him such odd looks… The coincidence indeed seemed a bit much.
Wang Tao intended to clarify that he was no “Blessing of Twilight,” but after some thought, he kept silent. After all, he was now a Senior Priest of the Dusk Church, and having the title of “Blessing of Twilight” might help him integrate better.
To be honest, Wang Tao was still somewhat wary of the Dusk Church. After all, the Bishop’s ability was too formidable, having brainwashed so many people during the Apocalypse, even from so far away… It was impressive. One must know oneself as well as the enemy to be undefeated in a hundred battles, and understanding the Dusk Church more couldn’t hurt.
So, Wang Tao approached the sculpture in the center of the hall.
“This is our faith, ‘Twilight’… Our craftsmanship is somewhat poor, please forgive us!”
Zhao Yaru explained, somewhat embarrassed.
The Dusk Church’s faith was indeed in Twilight, Wang Tao knew this, but the believers he had seen before were just worshipping towards the west at dusk. This concrete representation of twilight in the form of a sculpture was new to Wang Tao.
“Not bad at all.”
Wang Tao commented before turning to Zhao Yaru:
“Tell me about your specific situation.”
“Yes, please follow me!”
Zhao Yaru led Wang Tao to a vacant conference room.
“Please have a seat.”
Zhao Yaru invited Wang Tao to sit down, then stood respectfully to one side and began to explain slowly.
“Our Zizhu Base has a total of 12,038 people…”
…
Zhao Yaru was one of the founding members of Zizhu Base; she was fortunate to have found this place at the onset of the Apocalypse. Then she and a group of people settled here.
Though their days were not easy, they had managed to survive with some close calls. However, the base was unable to expand, and they had faced a crisis that almost resulted in their annihilation.
It was during this crisis that they encountered the Bishop of the Dusk Church.
The Bishop provided them with some supplies, solved some of their problems, and then began to preach.
As the saying goes, he who provides the milk becomes the mother; since the Bishop had helped them so much, they naturally began to believe in the Dusk Church.
The Bishop didn’t stay long and left after the preaching, saying he needed to spread the doctrines of Twilight elsewhere.
When he left, he appointed a Priest to manage the base. From then on, this base fell under the control of that Priest.
In the beginning, Zhao Yaru and the others had contact with the Bishop through radio, but after the heavy snowfall, communication was completely cut off. They’d lost touch with the Bishop and had never seen him since.
Though the Bishop left, they had firmly converted to the Dusk Church. Those who joined Twilight Base later were also believers of the Dusk Church.
Rather than saying this place was a Survivor Base, it was more like a branch of the Dusk Church.
Subsequently, they faced many dangers, but never again did they encounter a devastating crisis that could annihilate the base. The base slowly began to grow stronger.
Today, Zizhu Base had over twelve thousand Survivors, all believers of the Dusk Church.
Most of these people were ordinary, with only a few Ability Users. As for the Awakeners, there were only 22 in total. The strongest among them, and their leader, was the Senior Priest who had been eaten by the Giant Zombie.
This time they had ventured out, all 22 Awakeners went along–an exceptionally large operation that resulted in only 11 returning, a direct loss of half. The remaining half were all severely injured and temporarily incapacitated.
Had it not been for Wang Tao’s rescue, Zizhu Base would have had their high-end Combat Power completely wiped out, and the base likely wouldn’t have survived much longer…
As for why they provoked the Giant Zombie, Zhao Yaru said it was because their leader, Priest Lord, had chosen to provoke it actively. But to be fair, it wasn’t entirely the Priest’s fault.
This Giant Zombie had wandered over from elsewhere, and judging by the direction it was moving, it was likely to pass through their Zizhu Base!
There used to be a smaller base here, also underground. But it’s unclear whether that base had exposed its flaws, or the Giant Zombie caught their scent–regardless, the Giant Zombie found them! It ripped the place apart, pulling out and eating dozens of people from the smaller base!
