Chapter 304: Chapter 304: Ji Shiwang Collapses, Chen Bao’s Biological Mother Is…
“Haven’t we already gone through this? The evidence of your crime is irrefutable, and for the time being, you’ve been sentenced to life imprisonment. We’re transferring you to a women’s prison now, and the formal trial will be held in a month. If you have any objections, you can apply for an appeal in six months.”
The police officer restrained her and began escorting her out.
Ji Shiwang struggled desperately, her wrists rubbed raw by the handcuffs, and her eyes wild with madness.
The Ji Family was already bankrupt–where could she even find a lawyer willing to help her appeal?
“I’m not going! I’m not going anywhere! Let me go, I want to see Li Lingyang!”
The officer replied, “Mr. Li instructed us that unless you’re ready to tell the truth, he doesn’t have time to waste on you!”
Each officer grabbed one of her arms, forcibly dragging her forward.
Ji Shiwang’s feeble resistance was no match for their overwhelming strength; she was compelled to walk out…
Having been confined in a dimly lit environment for so long, suddenly stepping into the glaring sunlight brought her an uncontrollable urge to cry.
Inside the police car, visions of her parents’ faces flashed before her eyes, over and over. Scalding tears rolled down, dripping onto the back of her hands.
Li Lingyang was truly ruthless, not leaving her even an inch of reprieve…
Thinking of her parents one moment and her hatred for Ning Yichu the next, Ji Shiwang finally, through her struggles, made a decision in her heart!
“Stop the car–”
She closed her eyes, shouting loudly, “I’ve thought it through! I want to see Li Lingyang!!”
Yet the officers in the front seats appeared entirely unmoved by her words, and the car continued forward!
Ji Shiwang froze, her body instinctively leaning forward, frantically pounding on the back of the seat. “I really mean it this time! Call Li Lingyang right now…”
The car suddenly sped up and veered sharply onto an unfamiliar road.
Ji Shiwang was instantly stunned. “This isn’t the road to the women’s prison. What are you doing?! Stop the car, I want to go back!”
The driver shot her a cold glance in the rearview mirror, sneering, “Do you really think you can know that much and still live?”
The air inside the vehicle turned stifling and tense.
Ji Shiwang’s heart felt like it had been gripped tightly. “Are you one of Shen Jiangqing’s people?!”
The driver said nothing, his foot slamming the accelerator to the floor, sending the car shooting forward at an even higher speed.
Ji Shiwang’s pupils dilated in terror. No–she couldn’t die. She hadn’t yet saved the Ji Family! She couldn’t die!
Half of her body lunged forward as she began wrestling the steering wheel from the driver’s control.
Caught off guard by her sudden move, the driver lost control of the wheel for a moment.
The vehicle careened wildly across the road.
The driver tried to shake her off, but Ji Shiwang clung to the wheel like a madwoman, refusing to let go.
The two continued their struggle to control the wheel.
The car swerved erratically before hurtling toward the highway barriers–
With an explosive crash, the windshield shattered into countless shards.
The driver slammed headfirst into the steering wheel.
Ji Shiwang, who had been wedged between the driver’s and passenger’s seats, narrowly avoided the worst of the collision.
Quickly regaining her senses, she scrambled to open the door and fled the car in a panic…
On the desolate, winding highway, there wasn’t a single vehicle in sight to call for help.
It was over.
Ji Shiwang’s eyes filled with despair, her heart pounding furiously within her chest, as though it might leap from her throat at any moment…
The driver, gripping his injured forehead, climbed out from the driver’s seat. Pulling a knife from his waistband, he fixed his gaze, blazing with murderous intent, on Ji Shiwang’s retreating figure. He shoved the car door open and charged after her.
…
Li Lingyang and Special Assistant Xu had been stationed at the police station all along, never leaving.
“President Li, do you think she’ll tell the truth?” Special Assistant Xu asked, a trace of unease in his voice.
“She will,” Li Lingyang’s gaze brimmed with calculated certainty. “Ji Shiwang is at her breaking point. She ought to know by now that the only person able to make things slightly better for the Ji Family… is me.”
He estimated it would take no more than ten minutes before he received her call.
However, as seconds turned into minutes, still, there was no word from Ji Shiwang…
“Contact the officers escorting her,” Li Lingyang ordered coldly.
Special Assistant Xu immediately complied but failed to reach them after two attempts.
“President Li, the escorting officers’ phones are turned off!”
Li Lingyang hadn’t anticipated trouble at such a critical moment. His eyes turned icy. “Send someone to locate their position immediately!”
…
The road ahead stretched desolately, not even a shadow in sight, an eerie emptiness unsettling to the bone.
The further Ji Shiwang ran, the heavier her heart grew.
Her back was drenched with cold sweat.
Days of sleeplessness and continuous turmoil had already left her physically drained. She was running solely on sheer willpower, forcing herself forward through pure desperation…
If she had even a cellphone, she thought bitterly, this situation might not have spiraled into such an utter disaster!
But the driver, having undergone professional training, moved with feline agility. Like a predator closing in, the gap between them shrank relentlessly.
Ji Shiwang’s scalp tingled as dread surged within her. She kept running, mindless of her own exhaustion.
But it was clear–she couldn’t outrun him.
Suddenly, she felt her hair yanked violently, sending a sharp pain shooting through her scalp–
The driver, catching up to her with merciless intent, seized her arm and began dragging her forcefully toward the woods beyond the guardrail.
“Let go of me! Let go of me right now…” Ji Shiwang’s eyes radiated terror. She screamed desperately, her shoes coming off as she frantically kicked out.
But she was still dragged into the forest.
Sparrows took flight, startled from their perches, flapping wildly into the air.
The surroundings were completely deserted. Truly, there was no one–no help to be found, no way out.
“Heh, your life is worth two million, Ji Shiwang. Blame yourself for knowing too much. People like you are destined not to live long…”
With those words, the driver wasted no time. Lifting the knife, he aimed directly for her heart.
“Stop–!”
Li Lingyang arrived with reinforcements just in time to witness this scene. His pupils contracted sharply as he bellowed out.
The atmosphere froze in an instant.
The driver, caught off guard by Li Lingyang’s swift arrival, felt his last thread of composure snap completely.
Ji Shiwang, seeing Li Lingyang come with help, thought she was finally saved. Her eyes lit up with joy–but before she could even react, a sudden pain pierced her chest–
Her body stiffened abruptly.
Her pupils widened in shock. She turned her head slightly to see the driver’s distorted face, his eyes burning with irreconcilable resentment.
He had actually dared to make a move right in front of so many people!
Li Lingyang’s expression turned dark as he personally led the charge to subdue the driver, pressing him down to the ground.
Blood gushed from the wound in Ji Shiwang’s chest, soaking through her clothes and filling the air with the thick scent of iron.
Her strength rapidly drained away, her body collapsing weakly as she felt life slip through her grasp.
The piercing sound of tinnitus roared in her ears, stretching unendingly. All around was chaos, confusion, turmoil.
Li Lingyang’s anxious face swam before her vision.
Somewhere in her hazy state, she thought she could make out his lips forming the shape of her name…
