“Alright, then I’m off.” Meng Jiahe was encouraged by that smile, feeling even more empowered.

“Mhm.” Sang Qiao nodded, watching her silhouette leave the office.

Meng Jiahe entered and looked at the unchanged decorations, feeling an overwhelming sense of strangeness. This place was never her home, just somewhere she could occasionally stay.

When she came in, Elder Mrs. Meng naturally saw her and, unable to contain her anger, stood up from the sofa and pointed at Meng Jiahe’s nose, cursing loudly.

“How many calls have I made to you these past few days, how many messages have I sent, why didn’t you reply? Doing it on purpose, aren’t you, afraid that your sister would live a good life?”

Meng Jiahe ignored Elder Mrs. Meng and turned her gaze to her mother, who was sitting still on the sofa.

“I want to transfer my household registration.”

Hearing this, Mrs. Meng’s face instantly changed, her tone displeased.

“What are you saying? You’ve only known that man for so long and you want to marry him, are you sure he will treat you well for a lifetime?”

“I’m not at the stage of getting married to him; I want to transfer my registration to Dad’s.”

Meng Jiahe’s words undoubtedly ignited the fuse in Mrs. Meng’s heart.

“What do you mean, do you think I haven’t treated you as well as your father? For all these years, who has provided for you, raised you with hardship? If it were your father, would he care for you? He didn’t even want you to attend high school!”

“Yes, Dad isn’t good; he has a son now and doesn’t want to provide for his daughter. But, Grandmother won’t point at my nose and scold me, forcing me to do things I don’t want to do!”

Meng Jiahe’s hands uncontrollably clenched into fists, her whole body shaking with anger.

She hated Elder Mrs. Meng to death; sometimes she even wanted to act without any decency, but because of her mother, she endured.

She had endured for so many years, she felt aggrieved; nobody likes to be pointed at and ridiculed at will.

“You… She didn’t force you to do anything, she just wanted you and your sister to have more contact.”

“If she wasn’t forcing me, why keep sending me messages all the time? Not replying to one already means refusal; isn’t it rude to bombard someone, doesn’t she know that?”

Meng Jiahe scoffed coldly, pointing her finger directly at Elder Mrs. Meng nearby.

Elder Mrs. Meng’s face darkened, “You little beast dare to point at me! You eat from our house, wear from our house; what’s wrong with paving a little way for Wange?”

“Meng Jiahe, is this how I usually teach you? How can you be so ill-mannered, what kind of behavior is this, apologize to Mom right now.”

“If you don’t agree to move my registration back to Dad’s, I will sue you. I’m an adult; I have the right to choose who I want to live with.”

Meng Jiahe shifted her gaze away from looking into Mrs. Meng’s eyes; Mrs. Meng loved her, but that love was too scarce, too neglectful.

She even had no way to protect her in this house.

“You!” Mrs. Meng was so angry her face turned ashen, “Fine, then get out; I would love to see what kind of good thing your father is, and just how long that rich boyfriend of yours will stay with you!”

“Mhm, I remember very clearly every penny the Meng Family and you have given me over the years, as well as the number of days I’ve stayed, every meal I’ve eaten; I’ll repay you according to hotel prices.”

Meng Jiahe left these words behind, turned around, and walked away, with no intention to stay any longer.

“You little slut, now that you’ve made it big, you want to sever ties like this? I won’t agree. Either give your boyfriend to Wange or share half of your Rose Entertainment stocks with Wange!”

How could Elder Mrs. Meng let Meng Jiahe go so easily?

Hearing these words, Meng Jiahe couldn’t help but laugh mockingly. So, there really were people who could be so shameless, never considering how they treated her in the past.

Her mother provided her with a place to live, three meals a day to be satisfied; she understood that as someone dependent on others, she would always cooperate and move out whenever Elder Mrs. Meng came over.

If it hadn’t been for Sang Qiao secretly bringing her back to her room to stay temporarily.

Where could she, then still in elementary school, possibly go? Her father’s home was too far away, and by middle school, she had always lived on campus and never came back; in high school, she hadn’t taken a cent from her mother ever again.

From the first day she arrived at the Meng Family, Meng Jiahe had been looking forward to growing up, wanting to escape this place, so she kept a clear record of every cent she used.

She was thankful to her mother for raising her and supporting her until middle school, yet she also couldn’t bring herself to love her mother.

She too wanted a good life, but she would always remember the kindness of being raised and educated; if her mother needed her, she would be there, provided that her mother genuinely needed her help and wasn’t bothering her for someone else’s sake.

“Do we have any relationship? Elder Mrs. Meng, don’t forget how you introduce me to others.”

Elder Mrs. Meng’s face stiffened, and then shamelessly said, “Stop bringing up irrelevant things.”

“If Wange really comes to a point where she needs my help, and it’s within my capacity, I will help her, nothing more.”

Meng Jiahe left these words behind, glanced back at Elder Mrs. Meng, then strode away without looking back.

“You are just afraid that Wange will have a better life than you!”

Elder Mrs. Meng’s curses continued intermittently from behind.

Meng Jiahe didn’t look back; she walked away from the Meng Family without hesitation, feeling a breath of relief, having resolved something that had been weighing on her heart for years.

She had just returned to the company, planning to go to her office first to calm herself down.

Then she saw Meng Wangge sitting inside, “Sister Ah He, you’re back. I just heard mom say…”

“If you’re here to persuade me, don’t bother,” Meng Jiahe guessed that this matter would eventually reach Meng Wangge’s ears, but hadn’t expected it this soon.

It seemed the Meng Family was quick indeed. Did they really think a decision she was determined to make could be changed by a few words of persuasion?

“I’m sorry.” Meng Wangge had no choice but to draw back her hand, unsure what else to say.

“It’s okay, go back to work.” Meng Jiahe’s fingertips slightly retracted; in her life, there had only been two people she had envied and been jealous of–one was the past’s Chen Ling, and the other was Meng Wangge.

“Okay, no matter what Grandma says, don’t take it to heart. I don’t need you to pave the way for me; I can work hard myself.”

Meng Wangge forced a smile, knowing her grandmother’s words were harsh. She had tried to say a few words in the past, but that was her elder, and she couldn’t speak too rudely.

Meng Jiahe said softly, looking downward, “Yeah, keep it up. You should learn more from Chen Ling.”

“I will, you go ahead with your work.” Meng Wangge nodded and walked out, acting as if nothing had happened.

“Yeah.” Meng Jiahe sat on the couch, her gaze fixed ahead, feeling a sense of irritation within. She wanted to escape from everyone in the Meng Family.

But she was destined not to escape from Meng Wangge; they would always be in contact, always meet.
