Chapter 314: Chapter 314: He Doesn’t Understand Why Heaven Is So Cruel
“It’s okay, I never took the matter to heart. Who you like is your choice,” Sang Qiao’s voice was sweet and gentle, with a soothing intention.
Her words did indeed calm Ah He’s mood, but they made Shangguan Yuan’s face darken.
Realizing something was off with Shangguan Yuan, Meng Jiahe quickly spoke up to salvage the situation, “That’s true! But I only like Ah Yuan.”
“Good, it better be that way,” Shangguan Yuan’s complexion only then slightly improved.
He remembered the second time he met Ah He, Sang Qingran was also present. If he hadn’t walked over with an umbrella and taken Ah He to the hospital, would Sang Qingran have been the one to do it?
Would Sang Qingran now be the one standing by Ah He’s side?
“Let’s go, let’s go, it’s getting late. Qiaoqiao and the others should rest, and so should we,” Meng Jiahe said, pulling Shangguan Yuan’s hand intending to head back to their room.
“Mhmm,” Shangguan Yuan allowed himself to be reluctantly pulled away, and after exiting the room, they whispered to each other.
They were obviously discussing the earlier topic about Sang Qingran.

They stayed for a total of seven days on this trip. After they got off the plane and returned, Meng Jiahe and Shangguan Yuan went straight back to the company.
Sang Qiao and Si Chenli took Mr. Sang Senior back to the old Sang Family home, where the old man was still reluctant to part, “Qiaoqiao, Xiao Li, if you have time, come by and visit often.”
“Okay, Grandpa. If you’re not comfortable, do you want to come and live with us?”
Sang Qiao saw the tearful glint in her grandfather’s eyes and felt a bit strange in her heart.
“No need for that; I’ll get used to it in a couple of days. You guys go back,” Mr. Sang Senior waved his hand, refusing. He knew all too well that he couldn’t always live with Sang Qiao and the others. Besides, he was too attached to the old house.
He would have to get used to it eventually.
Sang Qiao knew that the old house held many memories for Grandpa, so she didn’t persuade him further, “You know how to use WeChat, right? You can send me a message.”
“Okay, I’ll figure it out in a bit,” Mr. Sang Senior struggled to hide his reluctance, forcing a smile on his face.
“Mhmm, it’s not far anyway. I can come back tomorrow to have a meal with you,” Sang Qiao said softly.
“Alright, you all go on with your busy lives now. You’ve spent so many days with me, the company must have piled up a lot of work.”
“Okay.”
After Sang Qiao and Si Chenli left the Sang Family home, Mrs. Sang came out of the kitchen. She held a glass of water and felt a bitter discomfort in her heart.
Her health was getting better, with hardly any episodes lately. Likewise, her mind was becoming clearer, and her past actions continually replayed in her mind.
The more she thought about how she treated Qiaoqiao, the more frantic she became, so much so that she dared not face her, let alone make amends.
“Dad, you’re back from your outing.”
“Mhmm,” Old Sang leaned on the sofa, staring up at the ceiling.
Mrs. Sang placed the cup filled with warm water on the table and quietly sat beside him without disturbing Mr. Sang Senior.
The living room was quiet for a while, followed by the door being pushed open. Sang Shen heard the news of their return today and had all his arrangements postponed.
But he was still too late and could only watch their car drive away in the distance.
These past few days, he kept an eye on Grandpa’s Moments, but he found nothing posted. He couldn’t see any photos of Grandpa and Qiaoqiao.
“Grandpa, you were out playing for so long, and you didn’t even take any photos?”
“We did, they’re on my phone. We dressed up in Hanfu, took pictures at various sights, and also went fishing.” Mr. Sang Senior spoke from the future, but when his grandson wanted to see something, he didn’t hesitate to place his cell phone on the table.
When talking about the fun they had on the road, a smile couldn’t help but spread across Old Sang’s lips.
Grandpa’s phone didn’t have a password, so Sang Shen directly opened the gallery and saw photos of Qiaoqiao, Si Chenli, Ah He, and Shangguan Yuan.
He selected a few photos that only had Qiaoqiao and his grandfather together, as well as individual shots of Qiaoqiao, and sent them to his own WeChat. After that, he returned his grandfather’s phone.
Mrs. Sang had just been sitting by their side and naturally saw the photos too. She felt a bit of happiness in her heart, happy for Qiaoqiao.
Even if she had been an inadequate mother, Qiaoqiao still managed to grow up well out of her sight, becoming someone she could never make up to anymore.
“Has Qingran been busy lately? Does he know about Ah He’s new relationship?”
Mr. Sang Senior brought it up casually. He wanted to know his third grandson’s true feelings, even though initially it seemed like Qingran truly had no interest in Ah He.
But the children of the Sang Family always talked tough and sometimes weren’t too smart.
He was just afraid that Qingran’s lack of interest at the time was an act…
“Third brother has always been busy, but he took a few days off recently. He’s known about Ah He’s situation for a while. We talked about it before, and his reaction was quite indifferent.”
“It’s his loss of good fortune. It’s better this way, to avoid holding Ah He back. Little Yuan is great, a perfect match for Ah He,” Mr. Sang Senior sighed.
To say he felt no regret would be a lie, but as long as Ah He was happy, that was all that mattered.
Sang Qingran, who had just returned to the house, hadn’t even stepped in when he overheard this conversation, causing his steps to pause.
His fingertips clenched unconsciously. He had just come to understand his own feelings, only to cruelly learn that Ah He had never liked him at all.
Now, coming back home, he heard from his own grandfather’s mouth that he would be a hindrance to Ah He.
Sang Qingran didn’t know whether to laugh or be sad for a moment. It turned out his unworthiness wasn’t just in his own eyes; even his close grandfather thought he wasn’t good enough for the person he liked.
Sang Qingran eventually did not go inside. He turned around, walked out of the old house, and called his senior brother.
“Let’s go drinking.”
Confused by such an abrupt statement, the face on the other side of the screen asked, “You want to drink?”
“Coming or not, if not, I’m hanging up.” Sang Qingran continued walking toward the pub.
He had rarely touched alcohol in his life, even during festivities he had only a restrained single drink. He had never experienced the sensation of being completely drunk.
But today, he wanted to indulge just once.
“Oh, I get it. Are you currently in a situation where you can’t talk freely? Are you signaling me in code? Are you in danger?”
The tone of his senior brother on the phone became serious too.
Sang Qingran: “…Watch less nonsense.”
He cut off the call directly, entered a high-end pub, booked a private room, sat by himself, and filled the table with various bottles of alcohol.
Sang Qingran casually opened a bottle, poured his glass to the brim, and drank it all in one go. He hadn’t drunk like this before, and he was suddenly choked up, coughing violently.
Tears streamed down his face, and he couldn’t drink a second glass. Lying limply on the sofa, his eyes moist, he felt he had gotten nothing in his life.
He didn’t understand, couldn’t comprehend; he had lived so diligently, been a good person, helped save lives but why was life so cruel to him? Why did it leave nothing for him?
