Chapter 3: Returning to the Old Residence

Gu Fan peered carefully at Fang Yichu’s expression through the rearview mirror, and could not help but turn up the heater in the car.

Gu Cheng subconsciously covered his ears. He did not hear anything. What happened to this Miss Lu? This was terrifying! She saved the Fourth Young Master in Jiang City in the past, and yet now, she talks bad about the Fourth Young Master and to such extent. Did she forget what happened back then? He suddenly remembered that Old Master Fang had repeatedly reminded the Fourth Young Master to make a trip back to the old residence to discuss something important. Could it be about the arranged marriage with the Lu family’s Little Miss?

If Gu Cheng could think of it, Fang Yichu could too. He looked at Lu Youyou without any expression on his face and said, “There’s something you might not know. The Fourth Young Master of the Fang family had a car accident when he was 18 years old which caused his legs to be crippled.”

Lu Youyou looked at him blankly. “So you’re explaining why he’s still single?”

The Fourth Young Master of the Fang family, Fang Yichu, had a leg disability and was born mute. This was a well-known fact. However, as the Fang family was the most powerful family in the Sea City and as the Fang family’s patriarch cared about his children, no one wanted to offend the Fang family. As such, it was taboo to talk about the Fourth Young Master of the Fang family. After all, a loose tongue may cause a lot of trouble. If the Fang family’s patriarch were to hear about it, the gains would not make up for the losses.

Lu Youyou was surprised. The man in front of her had probably guessed that she was the daughter of the Lu family, and yet, he dared to speak bluntly about the taboo of the Fang family.

Fang Yichu stared at her for a moment longer and added, “What’s more, he’s a mute.”

Lu Youyou said, “That’s really bold of you.”

Fang Yichu snorted. “You’re pretty bold yourself.”

Lu Youyou retorted. “But I didn’t mention anything about the taboo of the Fang family!”

“Hehe!” Fang Yichu sneered. She did not mention anything, but she dared to run away from the arranged marriage. What’s more, she dared to run onto a mountain road in the pouring rain, got into an unfamiliar car, and talked bad about him in front of him!

When the car drove out of the city, Gu Fan parked by the roadside.

Gu Cheng handed her a big black umbrella. Fang Yichu also gave her a note with his phone number on it. “It’s not safe for a young lady like you to run away from an arranged marriage in the heavy rain. You can pay me the taxi fare after you have settled down.”

Lu Youyou had prepared 2000 yuan, but when she heard his words, she took the umbrella hesitantly and pocketed the note and money. She then got out of the car.

The car drove past her which splashed water from a puddle onto the hem of her dress.

Fang sat where he was and wrote a new word on the note pad before passing it forward. “Investigate.”

Gu Cheng was stunned when he saw the word on the note. “Fourth Young Master, do you suspect that Miss Lu has ulterior motives for approaching you today?”

Gu Fan chimed in. “Could it be that the incident at the Jiang City Reservoir a year ago was indeed orchestrated?”

Fang Yichu did not reply. He does not believe in coincidences. To know whether the young lady had ulterior motives, he just had to wait to see if she would call him.

He asked Gu Cheng to investigate because he wanted to know if there was really something wrong with her, who was the mastermind behind her then?

The Fang family’s old residence was located at the top of a mountain facing the sea in Sea City.

It was summer now, and as the car traveled along the winding mountain road, everything that entered the eye was green and freshly washed from the rain.

Out of the four sons of the Fang family, Fang Yichu was the only one who lived elsewhere. His three older brothers had always lived with the Fang family.

To the public, it was said that Old Master Fang was worried about his youngest son’s disability and could not bear to see him making trips to and fro from the city. That was why he bought him a manor villa in the city center for him to recuperate in peace. However, his true intention was to show that Fang Yichu had no chance of inheriting the Fang family’s inheritance.

Fang Yichu knew very well what his father meant, but he did not point it out. In fact, he was more than willing to leave the Fang family. Besides, ever since he left the Fang family when he was 18 years old, his life had become much more peaceful.

It had been nearly a year since his last visit, and the place was just as it had always been. Even though it sat at the top of the mountain and had plentiful sunlight and sea breeze, there was something oppressive about it.

The car crossed over the parking area and came to a stop at the entrance of the villa. This was a privilege only for Fang Yichu.

Gu Cheng took out a wheelchair from the trunk and together with his brother, Gu Fan, they carefully helped Fang Yichu out of the car and onto the wheelchair.

Gu Cheng pushed Fang Yichu slowly towards the entrance of the villa which had a gigantic aquarium that was as huge as a city wall. Just as they turned around the corner and before Fang Yichu could even see the jellyfish in the aquarium clearly, a few teasing voices came from the entrance.

“Fourth Brother is finally back!”

“That’s right. Dad is still the best. He can ask Fourth Brother to come back with a single call!”

“Don’t be so sarcastic. Fourth Brother can’t walk or speak, and his life is dependent on Gu Cheng and Gu Fan. It’s not easy for him to come back. Big Brother, Second Brother, don’t nag at him. After all, we can’t understand how he feels.”

“Yes, Third Brother is right!”
