Chapter 1351: Chapter 910 Human Magic
“So, are we parting ways here?”
“Seems like it, is there anything else?”
“I don’t have anything.”
The Hero shook his head then looked towards the Magic User beside him.
“But Frieren seems a bit troubled.”
“I’m not troubled.”
Frieren quietly retorted.
“It’s just that I’m a bit upset I couldn’t penetrate his armor in the end.”
“There’s nothing you can do about it, Magic operates on imagination, once you’ve observed the strength of that armor, it’s natural that you couldn’t penetrate it.”
The Monk nearby started joking amicably, hearing this, Duanmu Huai who was about to turn and leave, halted his steps.
“Wait, what did you just say? You mean, if she imagines that she can penetrate my armor, then her magic could do so?”
“That’s pretty much it, after all, it’s a characteristic of the Human Magic System.”
“The Human Magic System works that way?”
Duanmu Huai turned around, staring at the Magic User.
“So the reason you couldn’t penetrate my armor, is it not because it’s strong?”
“Right, precisely because I realized this, my magic failed.”
“… Can you explain more clearly?”
Facing Duanmu Huai’s inquiry, the Magic User was a bit surprised but expanded on the explanation.
“Human Magic stems from human imagination, in the world of magic, anything unimaginable cannot be realized. We’ve been traveling together, and you were always leading. No trap could leave even a slight mark on your armor, so I formed an impression that your armor is hard to penetrate–once that impression is formed, it’s difficult to actually use magic to penetrate your armor.”
“…”
Hearing this, Duanmu Huai’s expression slightly changed.
“So, you mean if you believe it can be done, it can be done. If you believe it can’t, then it can’t? Is that what you are saying?”
“Exactly, that’s it.”
“…”
Staring at the Magic User in front of him, Duanmu Huai fell silent for a moment, then approached the Hero.
“It would take you about eight days to go back and forth, right?”
“Right, after reporting to the city center, we will return immediately, since the Water Mirror Demon has been eliminated, it should not be as troublesome as before.”
“Then, could I borrow her for a bit?”
While saying this, Duanmu Huai pointed towards the Magic User.
“What do you plan on doing?”
“I have some questions about Human Magic I want to ask her.”
“I don’t take disciples.”
Hearing Duanmu Huai’s words, the Magic User immediately voiced her refusal.
“I didn’t say I wanted to be your disciple, I just want to discuss the theory of Human Magic with you… Of course, if you need a reward, I can also provide it.”
“Hmm…”
The Hero thought for a moment, then looked towards the Magic User.
“What do you think, Frieren?”
“A reward, huh? If there’s some interesting magic…”
“I have a bunch here.”
Duanmu Huai casually took out several Magic Scrolls that he had collected while doing missions in Paretia, some people who had no money would use Magic Scrolls as debt payment. Inside were all sorts of odd Magics, such as “Magic that turns juice into Qingshui,” “Magic that intoxicates one with a sip,” “Magic that corrodes iron into aging”…
Honestly, what a mess.
“Deal!”
It seems the other party is really not fussy.
Observing the Magic User excitedly taking the Magic Scrolls, Duanmu Huai’s expression turned serious. This was simple, just as he was listening to the explanation of the magic, Duanmu Huai suddenly heard a very familiar sound in his ear.
“WAGGGGGGGGGGH!!!”
That’s right, this Human Magic, is simply a variant of the Green Skin’s “I reckon” system!
In this world, Green Orcs possess a peculiar spiritual energy capability known as “Orcish Thought” power!
Honestly, this is probably the most bizarre and incomprehensible ability players have ever seen.
Put simply, if a bunch of Green Orcs made a metal box and put four wheels under it, then this contraption would start moving.
Humans are puzzled by this: the thing has no engine, no bearings, how does it even move?
Well, Orcs say “We reckon this thing works just like your cars; a metal shell with four wheels and it goes.”
Yep, it’s completely illogical.
For Orcs, anything they’ve seen can be replicated–not through technology, though.
This is a unique application of Orcish spiritual energy.
Basically, every Orc has a faint spiritual energy field. When there are just a few, this energy isn’t very useful. But the more Orcs there are, the wider their influence spreads, and the stronger the effect.
And this usage of spiritual energy is entirely unreasonable.
For example, if the Orcs believe painting the car red makes it three times faster, then once it’s painted red, it really will be three times faster.
Don’t ask why, it’s just what Orcs believe!
But this Orcish ability isn’t invincible.
Firstly, if you make something “Orcish Thought” inspired, like flying because you thought it could, it indeed flies. But whether it explodes while flying is another matter entirely.
You only considered whether it could fly, not whether it would explode, right?
Secondly, this “Orcish Thought” power can only influence physical objects, not minds, so there won’t be a situation where Orcs think you can be brainwashed, and then you actually get brainwashed.
Therefore, the characteristic of Green Skin’s equipment is that it works, but there’s a certain chance it might explode; other than that, the basic forms can vary greatly.
But what Duanmu Huai didn’t expect was that this planet has developed a human version of “Orcish Thought” power!
It’s not an unconscious collective concentration like the Orcs, but uses an individual’s spiritual energy… For Duanmu Huai, this is quite interesting indeed!
Generally speaking, the magic that Duanmu Huai encountered before would have fixed damage values if expressed in gaming terms.
For example, if Ann launches a fireball downwards, the damage is 300.
But if Ann is very angry, or infuses magic power, then the fireball’s damage might reach 9999.
But no matter what, the base damage value of this fireball is fixed at 300.
However, human magic in this world isn’t like that.
According to this magic user named Frieren, if she cannot imagine the fireball causing damage, then the damage of this Fireball Technique is zero.
But if deep down she truly believes the fireball can kill the opponent, then the fireball’s damage value is practically infinite.
This is way more useful than the Orcs’ “Orcish Thought” power, isn’t it!
But according to Frieren, this magic also has significant limitations.
Firstly, in a magic duel, if both parties are magic users, then the size of their magic power is a reasonable method of judgment. For example, a magic user who does not have much magic power, when seeing a magic user with strong magic power, it’s like a puppy facing an elephant, they can’t possibly imagine defeating the other party.
Once it reaches that level, it’s essentially a defeat without a fight.
Frieren was unable to break Duanmu Huai’s replica armor previously for the same reason. As Duanmu Huai mentioned, the Water Mirror Demon’s replication wasn’t his full strength, but seeing Duanmu Huai’s armor resist almost all attacks made Frieren genuinely believe she couldn’t pierce it, so ultimately, she couldn’t.
Secondly, that inner “conviction” is actually more challenging than imagined.
It’s not the kind of fiery resolve seen in hot-blooded comics like “I must do this or that” but rather, for a magic user, it must be deemed absolutely certain.
Like drowning in water, or humans breathing air — it has to be seen as common knowledge.
Well, that explains why only Green Skins can use “Orcish Thought”; given their intelligence–they can only “reckon”.
And Duanmu Huai is interested in this because he wants to incorporate it into his own magic system.
You see, the most crucial aspect of this human magic is that you must believe it’s achievable before you can actually do it–of course, strong magic power is a must, but for Duanmu Huai, magic power is not an issue.
So, what’s the most important issue then?
It’s the conviction.
Keep in mind, as a player, Duanmu Huai has fought Chaos Evil Gods before, meaning in his perspective–entities like Chaos Evil Gods and Great Demons are defeatable!
After all, during his solo runs, Duanmu Huai has become almost sick of grinding their replicas. For him, it’s “only natural” that these Chaos Evil Gods and Great Demons can be killed!
If he could, therefore, master the essence of human magic, combining it with the experience of Duanmu Huai from grinding solo against bosses, couldn’t he defeat those formidable Chaos Evil Gods and similar beings?
After all, in the human magic system, imagination is the most critical component, and having vanquished so many bosses, for Duanmu Huai, defeating powerful bosses is “naturally” part of the imagination he possesses. He definitely doesn’t lack the basic-level creative imagination; after all, how those Great Demons and Evil Gods died, what they looked like when they died, Duanmu Huai has watched it more times than he can count–how could he possibly lack imagination?
With the foundation of imagination, coupled with the support of powerful magic power–could he then instantaneously defeat a Great Demon?
This is indeed worth experimenting with!
That way, he himself could also wield the “Orcish Thought” power, right?!
